I agree that his collections have been very boring and lack the quality of Galliano’s work, but I believe you misunderstood me.
I think Bill is in an incredibly difficult situation that he was never meant to be in. He has never been a creative director like Galliano which means he was thrust into a situation which LVMH should have known would fail.
He is being replaced at Dior which is a good decision, but he will remain at Galliano. I think he will learn over the coming seasons to be more daring and incorporate more of John’s DNA, but right now commercial clothes are simply better for the house. They will sell better, and the customers want something familiar during these unstable times.
I know there are a lot of Galliano die-hards out there, but don’t blame a man who is just trying to do his best when a giant storm is going on around him. Frankly, Bill Gaytten shouldn’t be blamed for this, we should be looking at LVMH and their poor leadership.
