Miu Miu- SS 2012
Miuccia Prada is a hugely influential designer, so it’s interesting that she’s creating such drastically different visions for Prada and Miu Miu. There was still a retro vibe to the whole thing, but everything was much more strict. The shirting was matronly, the skirts were structured, and the lace and silk jackets were all dark but very ’60s. There also were some beautiful patchwork pieces that looked like they were made from dowdy wallpaper. The bags and shoes were classic in shape, but the tweaked colors, materials and silhouettes made them slightly unsettling. I think this collection was fantastic because it made weird, imperfect things beautiful, chic and dark. It will be fascinating to see if Miuccia’s customer follow the path of Prada or Miu Miu next season though.
