Valentino- SS 2012
Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli have truly made Valentino their own, and today’s collection evolved their take on the house. There were plenty of classically shaped, floating dresses, but there were also some beautiful wide-legged trousers. The color palette had a bit more flair; there was pink, green, blue, black, white, some nude tones, and of course, red. There was quite a lot of lace, flower details and more mature silhouettes, but this was countered by the sheerness and the pure beauty and luxury. There was also a Latin sensuality which could be seen in the hairstyles, lace and larger shoulders. I thought there were more silhouettes for the Valentino customer to choose from, which is both smart commercially and creatively. It’s nice to see that one house has found success with its designers unlike so many brands right now, and who wouldn’t keep around these two when the results are so stunning?
