Giambattista Valli- SS 2012

Giambattista Valli is the newest couturier on the block, so it’s no surprise that his take on vintage elegance is a little different than his competitors. His new Spring collection certainly had a ’20s and ’60s feel to it, but there was also a nice futuristic, edgy quality embedded in the clothes. The shapes were classic but streamlined. The materials ranged from silks to cottons to chiffon to feathers to beading, etc. The color palette started in silver and white, with occasional pops of zebra print, and then bits of yellow, pink, blue, red and green started to make stunning appearances in the later part of the show. There were also some stunning mod patterns used. I think this collection didn’t have the wild color and flourishes of past collections, but perhaps Valli is trying to find a balance between his RTW and his role as a couturier.
