Céline- SS 2012
Phoebe Philo’s work for Céline is so brilliant that it has become one of the most anticipated shows during PFW. She has created a sort of streamlined, ultra-chic image for the house, but this season was a turning point. Philo (in a very sleek way) explored volumes and different silhouettes which felt very new for Céline. For example, there was a military jacket that had quite large sleeves, and then the waist was emphasized by a wide belt. The skirts and dresses had longer lengths and were fuller, the pants were wider and looser, and shirts also were tailored to have more shape. The color palette was refined, neutral and earthy; this included tones of deep red, green, white, black, brown and grey. The clothes were also lighter than last season; there were sheer pleated skirts, lighter leathers, and a good deal of cotton. The accessories also complimented the theme of the show with the chunky heeled shoes and the cool leather bags. It’s nice to see Phoebe exploring new territory like this, but it’s even better when she improves upon her already impeccable taste and style.
